Which free certifications for jobs an employer can check, and how

Most of the 57 courses on this page end in a credential a recruiter can open, but the check works differently by issuer, so it is worth knowing which kind you are collecting before you spend the hours.

Credly badges. AWS Cloud Quest: Cloud Practitioner and Knowledge Badge Readiness Paths such as Cloud Essentials issue AWS badges through Credly, where anyone can verify them; you earn one by passing the path's assessment with at least 80 percent or by completing every assignment in a free Cloud Quest role. IBM's Cybersecurity Fundamentals on SkillsBuild is a Credly badge with the same 80 percent pass mark.

A certificate at a unique URL. Harvard's CS50 courses issue a free certificate at a unique address once you score at least 70 percent on the graded work, and freeCodeCamp publishes each certification at a public page under your username showing your name, the certification and the completion date.

A shareable link and profile. Google Skillshop gives a unique link per certification and lists awards on your public profile, which you can add to LinkedIn; they are valid for one year unless the certificate says otherwise. HubSpot Academy issues a certificate and badge you can view, download and share, valid for one or two years where its knowledge base publishes a period.

A certificate of completion. IBM's Cognitive Class courses award a certificate of completion after you pass the graded review questions and final exam. Their pages publish no verification link, so this site does not mark them verifiable; IBM issues Credly badges for some of them, but does not currently state what the badge costs.

What free certifications you can get online, grouped by what they demonstrate

Grouped by skill, the free online certifications for jobs listed here fall into four clusters: platform skills in marketing and sales, cloud and IT fundamentals, programming and data work assessed by projects, and security basics.

Marketing and sales platform skills

The Google Ads Search Certification is awarded by passing an assessment; its optional study modules and the assessment are listed at an average completion time of 3 hours 40 minutes. Fundamentals of Digital Marketing is broader, at 40 hours across 17 modules, and its completion award is not, in Google's words, a formal credential in the way a certification is. HubSpot Academy's Inbound Marketing, Content Marketing and Digital Advertising certifications each end in a certification exam, and Inbound Sales and Revenue Operations cover the sales side. These free certifications for marketing count most with employers who run the same platforms.

Cloud and IT fundamentals

Cloud Quest has you solve virtual customers' problems in a live AWS environment across 12 hours of assignments, and the Cloud Essentials path runs 21 hours 55 minutes of courses, labs and knowledge checks before its assessment. The intermediate Compute, Amazon EKS and Amazon ECS paths each go deep on a single service or service family. IBM's Introduction to Cloud (6 hours) supplies the vocabulary. None of these is an AWS Certification, which is a separate paid, proctored exam; they prepare for it.

Programming and data, assessed by projects

freeCodeCamp's Responsive Web Design, JavaScript, Python and Relational Databases certifications each require five projects before a free exam, and passing all six parts of the curriculum will qualify you for the Full-Stack Developer exam, which is not yet open: freeCodeCamp's curriculum data marks it as coming late 2026. Harvard's CS50x runs eleven weeks at 10 to 20 hours a week and ends with a final project of your own design; CS50's Introduction to Programming with Python and Databases with SQL follow the same lecture-and-problem-set pattern.

For data work, freeCodeCamp's Data Analysis with Python is archived but still claimable, and IBM's Python for Data Science (18 hours) and SQL and Relational Databases 101 (5 hours) are graded through review questions and a final exam.

Security basics

CS50's Introduction to Cybersecurity is written for technical and non-technical learners and runs five weeks at 2 to 6 hours a week. freeCodeCamp's Information Security has you harden a Node application and write a port scanner in Python. IBM's Cybersecurity Fundamentals badge covers threat groups, attack types and risk management in about 7 hours 30 minutes, and Application Security for Developers is an intermediate 17 hours course on secure coding and DevSecOps.

What a free certification does not prove

A verified link confirms the issuer, your name, the credential and its date. It does not show how long you spent, whether you worked alone, or whether you can apply the skill under pressure, and none of the credentials here replaces an AWS Certification, a licence or a degree where an advert requires one. This site makes no claims about hiring outcomes, so pair any credential with something an employer can inspect: the CS50 final project, the freeCodeCamp projects behind a certification, or a Credly or Skillshop page linked from your application.

How to get free certifications without paying for anything

Every credential on this page costs nothing to earn, but each issuer asks something different of you.

• Skillshop: pass the assessment. The study modules are optional.
• HubSpot Academy: watch the video lessons, take the quizzes, then sit the exam; HubSpot mentions no fee for retakes, only a waiting period between attempts.
• freeCodeCamp: complete the five required projects, then pass the exam, which freeCodeCamp states is free of charge. Donations are voluntary.
• CS50: submit problem sets through a free edX account and score at least 70 percent. The optional edX verified certificate is the paid alternative, $219 for CS50x.

Narrow the list by situation or field

The remote jobs page keeps the credentials that appear in remote job descriptions, the résumé page shows how to list each kind, and the veterans page sets them beside formal benefit programmes. The IT, digital marketing and cyber security pages filter the same records by field.
