This certification moves JavaScript to the server. Its teaching chapter starts with an introduction to Node.js, Node's core modules and the Node Package Manager, with a prime number checker module as a first project, then explains HTTP and the web standards model before introducing Express. From there it covers building a personal profile app, Express middleware, REST APIs and web services, a timestamp microservice project, and error handling in Express, among further topics. The second chapter is the certification exam.
The course is one of the six that make up freeCodeCamp's Full-Stack Developer curriculum; it is taught through interactive lessons, workshops, labs, reviews and quizzes that you complete in the browser at your own pace, and five required projects must be finished to qualify for the exam. Passing the exam lets you claim the certification. Nothing along the way costs money: freeCodeCamp is a donor-supported nonprofit, states that taking the exam is free of charge, and issues each certificate at a public URL on freecodecamp.org that anyone can verify.
