freeCodeCamp's current Python certification, one of the six that make up its Full-Stack Developer curriculum, teaches the fundamentals of the language in a single chapter of 86 blocks followed by an exam chapter. It begins with Python basics and installation, then loops and sequences and dictionaries and sets, with a user configuration manager as the first project. Error handling, classes and objects and object-oriented programming follow, with a budget app and a polygon area calculator as projects, before the course turns to computer-science ground: linear data structures, building a hash table, recursion and algorithms.
Teaching is through interactive lessons, workshops, labs, reviews and quizzes completed in the browser at your own pace. Five required projects must be completed to qualify for the certification exam, and passing the exam lets you claim the Python Certification. Everything is free — the curriculum, the exam (which freeCodeCamp states is free of charge) and the certificate, which is published at a public URL on freecodecamp.org so that anyone can verify it.
