The follow-on to freeCodeCamp's A2 course, written for developers and aligned with the B1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference. It contains 73 dialogues grouped into lessons across 49 blocks, each lesson paired with a quiz, and the final block is the certification exam. The grammar strand moves from describing places and events and talking about past experiences and activities into the Present Perfect, planning future events and the Future Continuous, conditionals, modal verbs, adverbial phrases, adjectives, determiners and articles, and reported speech. The communication strand covers sharing feedback and opinions, expressing agreement, disagreement and concerns, making decisions based on comparisons, managing a conversation, clarifying misunderstandings, and speculation and requests.
Throughout, the vocabulary stays close to software work — describing code, taking part in stand-up meetings and discussing tech trends — so that you can prepare for real interactions in a tech team. The course is interactive, self-paced and free, and is marked Beta. To earn the B1 English for Developers Certification you complete all the quizzes to qualify for the exam, then pass it; freeCodeCamp states that taking an exam is free of charge, and the certificate is issued at a public URL on freecodecamp.org alongside its other free language certifications.
