Are HubSpot certifications free? What the certificate costs
Yes, without a catch. HubSpot's own wording is that creating a HubSpot Academy account is free and gives unlimited access to its complete library of education and free software tools, and every course in the table above is labelled a free certification course on its page. There is no paid tier for the credential, no exam fee and no upgrade to unlock the certificate, which is what makes a free HubSpot certification different from the free-to-audit model on university platforms, where the course is free and the certificate is not.
Not listed are HubSpot's software certifications. The Marketing Hub page states that its practical exercises require a Professional or Enterprise HubSpot subscription, the Sales Hub course describes itself as being for Professional and Enterprise users, and the Service Hub and Reporting courses are tool training for HubSpot customers. Money changes hands there, indirectly, through the software, so they do not meet this site's definition of free.
How to get a HubSpot certification
Every listed certification follows the same route. You watch the video lessons, take the quizzes between them on most certifications, then sit the certification exam; passing it issues the certificate and a badge you can view, download and share. Only Email Marketing adds a practical exercise to its lessons and quizzes. Frictionless Sales lists no quizzes at all, and the AEO Fundamentals page lists videos and a certification but no quizzes, so for both the exam is the only assessment.
If you fail, HubSpot's knowledge base says you can take the exam again after a waiting period of less than a day, and mentions no fee for retakes. Each course page lists the languages offered besides English; several are available in German, Spanish, French, Japanese and Portuguese.
How long does a HubSpot certification take?
The course page gives a total running time for the videos, and the exam comes on top. Inbound, the methodology course, runs 2 hours 45 minutes; Frictionless Sales is shorter still at 1 hour 46 minutes. Most marketing courses sit between those and Content Marketing, the longest at 8 hours 23 minutes across 14 lessons. On the sales side, Sales Enablement is 7 hours 20 minutes and Revenue Operations is 6 hours 52 minutes. No page states a level, so running time is the only measure of size.
Which HubSpot certification course to start with
Start with whichever matches the job you do or want, but the marketing and sales courses all build on the inbound framework, so the short Inbound course is a sensible first exam if flywheels, personas and the buyer's journey are new vocabulary.
Marketing: the HubSpot inbound marketing certification and its neighbours
The Inbound Marketing certification is the core marketing credential: content for each stage of the buyer's journey, distribution, segmentation, attribution and experiments, and automation and AI, in 4 hours 53 minutes. Its follow-on, Inbound Marketing Optimization, is for people already running a programme and covers analytics, conversational marketing, conversion rate optimisation and website UX.
The channel courses are narrower. The content marketing HubSpot certification covers a content framework, topic clusters and pillar pages, repurposing, video and guest blogging. The email marketing HubSpot certification covers segmentation, deliverability, design, copy, personalisation, automation and A/B tests. Social Media Marketing covers strategy, listening, platform-specific content and introductory social advertising; Digital Advertising covers paid media across social, paid search and programmatic. Digital Marketing touches all of these in 3 hours 24 minutes. AEO Fundamentals replaced the old SEO course and is about visibility in AI answer engines as well as search results.
Sales and operations certifications
Inbound Sales applies the methodology to selling: prioritising active buyers, personalised outreach, exploratory conversations and tailored presentations, in 3 hours 6 minutes. Sales Enablement is about aligning marketing and sales around a revenue goal, a lead qualification framework and a service-level agreement. Frictionless Sales is a short course for sales leaders on removing the processes that stop a team selling. Revenue Operations introduces RevOps: mapping a sales process, managing systems, and structuring and hiring a RevOps team. These sit in the business and management hubs rather than marketing.
How long the certificate stays valid, and how to verify it
The credentials expire. HubSpot's knowledge base lists each as valid for one or two years: every marketing and sales certification on this page is a two-year credential except Inbound Marketing Optimization, which lasts one year, and AEO Fundamentals, for which no validity period is published yet. To stay certified you take the course and exam again before the badge lapses.
Verification is built into the certificate. HubSpot's knowledge base describes an achievement link you can share, a printable download, a badge you can embed on a website and a LinkedIn entry that carries the link, and the certificate shows its expiry as a Valid until date. On a CV, give the achievement link and that date, since an employer who knows HubSpot will know the credential expires.
Are HubSpot certifications worth it?
It depends on which kind you take. The inbound, content, email and sales courses teach a method that applies whatever software you use; their lesson lists name no HubSpot tool beyond one short lesson in Email Marketing. The badge shows that you passed an exam on that method within the last one or two years, not that you got results. A free HubSpot certification is worth most when paired with a campaign, a portfolio or a role where you applied it.
For advertising-platform credentials with the same free, verifiable model, see the Google certifications page; the marketing and digital marketing certification pages list both providers.
