Free online management courses with certificates: which listed courses give one
The 17 courses on this page split three ways. HubSpot Academy issues its certificates free; the university courses on edX, MITx Online and Coursera and the Alison diplomas charge for theirs; the Udemy courses have none.
Free certificate: the HubSpot Academy trio
Sales Enablement Training (7 hours 20 minutes) covers aligning marketing and sales around a revenue goal, lead qualification and service-level agreements; Revenue Operations Certification (6 hours 52 minutes) covers mapping a sales process, systems management and structuring and hiring a RevOps team; Frictionless Sales (1 hour 46 minutes) is a short course for sales leaders on removing what stops a team selling. Each ends in a certification exam, the course and certificate are free with an Academy account, and HubSpot's knowledge base lists each certification as valid for two years.
Free to take, certificate paid
The edX courses are free to audit while the run is active; the verified certificate costs $189 for Leadership Development, $209 for Exercising Leadership and Creating Public Value, $149 for Remote Work Revolution, $199 for Strategic Finance for Nonprofit Leaders, $199 for Empathy and Emotional Intelligence at Work and Mindfulness and Resilience to Stress at Work, and $149 for Introduction to Project Management.
MITx's Supply Chain Fundamentals lists its certificate track at $299. Alison's Diploma in Project Management and Diploma in Human Resources are free to study in full; the diploma is an optional purchase and a free Learner Record confirms completion. Bocconi's Management of Fashion and Luxury Companies on Coursera is free in full with a paid certificate whose price is not stated.
No certificate: the Udemy courses
Project Management Fundamentals and Introduction to Practical Project Management are free to enrol in, but free Udemy courses carry no certificate of completion, no Q&A and may show ads.
Which free project management course to take, and whether any certification is free
The listed project management courses are introductions rather than exam preparation. AdelaideX's Introduction to Project Management (6 weeks at 2 to 3 hours a week) covers core principles, communicating with a team and stakeholders, and why modern projects are more complex; it is the first half of the AdelaideX Fundamentals of Project Management programme. Alison's Diploma in Project Management is a broad survey: fundamentals, team leadership, the risk management process, documentation, the life cycle from initiation to implementation, and stakeholder communication.
The Udemy pair are quick maps of the vocabulary: Project Management Fundamentals (1 hour 42 minutes) compares Waterfall and Agile and explains the triple constraint, and Introduction to Practical Project Management (1 hour 54 minutes) is organised around the PMI knowledge areas and orients you to the PMP credential and the PMBOK guide.
None of these gives a project management certification free of charge: Alison sells the diploma, AdelaideX sells the verified certificate, and Udemy issues nothing. The courses that do issue a free, verifiable project management credential are collected on the free project management certifications page.
Free leadership courses online from Harvard and Oxford
Harvard's three leadership courses run on edX as HarvardX courses, free to audit and each rated introductory at 2 to 3 hours a week. Exercising Leadership: Foundational Principles is about adaptive challenges: unbundling complex problems, formal versus informal authority, stakeholder perspectives, trust and conflict. Leadership for Purposeful Change: Creating Public Value (7 weeks) is Harvard Kennedy School's public-leadership course and ends with a public value proposition for your own position. Remote Work Revolution for Everyone (3 weeks) covers trust, digital tools and leading a fully remote team, and ends with a plan to relaunch your team remotely.
Oxford's Leadership Development (4 weeks at 2 to 4 hours a week), from Saïd Business School, works through leadership traits, styles and contexts before turning to your own style and where your strengths and weaknesses lie. Oxford lists no prerequisites. The Harvard hub and Oxford hub list the rest of each university's courses.
Managing people, sales and operations
For the people side, Alison's Diploma in Human Resources follows the employee life cycle from recruitment through appraisal to separation, plus retention, culture and change. Berkeley's Empathy and Emotional Intelligence at Work and Mindfulness and Resilience to Stress at Work each run 4 weeks at 1 to 2 hours a week and both name The Science of Happiness and The Foundations of Happiness at Work as prerequisites.
For sales and revenue teams, the HubSpot trio above is the practical route. For operations, MITx's Supply Chain Fundamentals (13 weeks at 8 to 12 hours a week) is instructor-paced, covers demand forecasting, inventory and transportation planning, and opens the MITx MicroMasters in Supply Chain Management. Harvard's Strategic Finance for Nonprofit Leaders (6 weeks) teaches reading nonprofit financial statements and budgeting for people without a finance background. Bocconi's Management of Fashion and Luxury Companies (one week at 10 hours a week) is a case-based overview of how fashion and luxury businesses work, from business models to brand identity and retail; it is a business course, not a design course.
