Free cyber security certifications come mostly from technology vendors that issue badges and credentials for completing their security learning paths and passing an assessment, and from a few non-profit and professional-association introductions that include a free certificate. Cloud vendors have security knowledge badges; Microsoft has security-related Applied Skills and learning paths; IBM issues security badges through its free platforms. All are verifiable by link. It is also distinct from the industry certifications that security job adverts ask for, from entry-level vendor-neutral exams through to advanced professional credentials: those require paid, proctored exams and often documented experience, and free credentials do not substitute for them. What free credentials do is show structured study and hands-on familiarity with a platform's security tooling, which matters for people moving into security from IT support, networking or development, for students building a first profile, and for professionals who need to show cloud security knowledge for a specific employer. When choosing, prefer credentials with a lab or an assessment over completion badges, check whether the content is vendor-specific or general, and be realistic about entry-level security roles, which usually expect prior IT experience.
