Transform Your Home: Learn to Decorate and Refurbish with Style

This Alison course, published by John Academy, treats home decoration and refurbishment as one project, from motive to paperwork. Its single content module, Home Decor and Refurbishment, starts with the reasons people renovate, including adding value to a property, and the planning and budgeting decisions that follow. It then surveys the main home decor styles and the elements that define them, explains how to draw up decoration plans for individual rooms, ceilings and walls, and tours design themes that originated in different countries. The later units are practical: how to judge and hire a qualified contractor, including scheduling, evaluation and payment; the rules, regulations and paperwork that go with home improvement work; and the health and safety regulations that keep a site safe. A closing section explains how to start and market a refurbishing business.

A course assessment follows the module. Alison rates the course Advanced Level, lists an average duration of 3 to 4 hours, marks it CPD-accredited and offers it in English only; the lessons include video and are self-paced. Studying is free. The optional Alison Certificate is paid, in digital or printed form, and a free Learner Record is available after completion.
