HTML5 and CSS Fundamentals is the World Wide Web Consortium's own introductory course on building web pages, offered through its W3Cx programme on edX. It explains what a markup language is, how to write a web page in HTML5, the basics of styling with CSS, principles of web design and style, and how to lay out a page, including with flexbox. No prerequisites are listed.

edX marks the course as introductory level and self-paced, estimated at six weeks of four to six hours a week. Auditing is free and gives access to the course material for a limited time (edX says audit access expires after the estimated course length), without graded assignments or a certificate. The verified track, which includes graded work and a certificate, is shown at 249 US dollars.
