Statistics and R

Statistics and R is the first course in HarvardX's Data Analysis for Life Sciences series. It teaches the basics of statistical inference (random variables, distributions, p-values and confidence intervals) while analysing data in R, with programming examples that tie each concept to its implementation. It also covers exploratory data analysis and visualisation for choosing an approach, robust and non-parametric methods for when data do not meet standard assumptions, and the use of R scripts as a basis for reproducible research. Problem sets that require R programming test understanding.

Harvard notes that the series is divided into seven parts, that statisticians may want to skip the first two or three courses and biologists some of the biology lectures, and that the statistics and programming ramp up quickly across the first three courses. This course is self-paced, four weeks long at 2 to 4 hours per week, and rated intermediate. It is free to audit on edX, with a verified certificate for $219.
