Managing Happiness, taught by Arthur Brooks of Harvard Kennedy School and Harvard Business School, introduces the modern science of human well-being and how to practise it. The course looks at definitions of happiness and its function in daily life, how genetic, social and economic factors shape it, and how findings from social science, positive psychology, neuroscience and philosophy can be applied to managing emotions and behaviour. You build a happiness portfolio around your deepest goals, examine how success and achievement affect short-term versus long-term happiness, and develop strategies for work and life at any age, including how to share the ideas with others.
Survey tools are part of the course. Harvard rates it introductory with a time commitment of 2 to 3 hours per week; no overall length is given on the page. It is self-paced and free to audit on edX, with a verified certificate available for $219.
