Data Analysis: Basic Probability and Statistics is built for people new to probability or wanting an approachable refresher before a college-level statistics course. It traces probability and statistics back to counting: modules 1 and 2 build basic counting skills, module 3 applies them to simple probability problems, modules 4 to 6 extend the techniques to a wider range of problems, and module 7 introduces statistics through expected value, variance and the normal distribution, showing how to approximate probabilities that are hard to compute exactly. Lessons are highly visual with guided practice, and the course favours developing a mathematical way of thinking over memorising terms and formulae; it also covers common probability fallacies and ways statistics are misused or misunderstood.

It is self-paced, seven weeks long at 3 to 5 hours per week, and rated introductory. Harvard lists it as free to audit on edX, with a verified certificate for $149.
