It doesn’t necessarily teach you all about Python as a programming language (although it is python based), but it teaches lot more valuable skill – how to approach a problem and see it through to resolution. It’s like a set of workouts for your brain. It is divided into levels from beginner to advanced and ends with assignments for professional portfolio. It touches on many different aspects, ranging from text or number manipulations, web scraping, creating websites, using databases to data science. Not everyone is a fan of jumping over so many topics, but I found it to be a great challenge. The professional portfolio topics are not necessary to complete the course and obtain the certificate, but are certainly good ideas to test your skills as well as enrich the CV, especially if you are starting up. I am actually quite amazed at Angela’s ability to learn so many concepts to the level at which she can teach them effortlessly. If you are looking for a course which will make you a better problem solver and a programmer – using python as a means to achieve this goal – look no further.

Thought about this comment for a while. I took many tutorials (on similar and different topics) before this one, I will take tutorials (on similar and different topics) after this one. But this one is different. It is not only the content I am talking about. On this day you may find countless learning materials courses etc. for Python out there on the Internet and some of them (of course not all) may be good as well. This is not it. The difference is style. No, “style” is too simple of a word to express it. It is “philosophy”. Yes. I am charmed by Dr. Angela Yu’s philosophy of teaching, philosophy of assisting the learner. At many points I almost dropped my jaw before the amazing talent of breaking down and making easy to digest very confusing topics and concepts which can quite easily turn into a cluster of nonsense in the blink of an eye. This is not “Well you paid for the course, oh thank you. Here are some videos in which I talk about how some stuff is done”. This is a well planned, well organized and, beyond all, well thought course. To conclude: Thank you Dr. Angela Yu, otsukaresama deshita.

Good course. It is a great introduction for an absolute beginner. My opinion is that a more advance course would be needed after this to get a job as a software engineer. There are many concepts explained through analogies which is great for a first timer. But in order to get deep understanding you can apply you need a more in depth course. There is an excellent overview of many use cases within the course which really gets across a sense of just how versatile python is.
