What you’ll learn

  • Edit your own film from scratch.
  • You’ll learn an efficient workflow that will allow you to organize your projects.
  • You’ll learn how to process tremendous amounts of footage cleanly.
  • You’ll learn how to do an assembly edit, sound design, color correction, and export for final delivery.
  • You’ll learn how to start and end the post-production of your film without feeling stressed and overwhelmed.

Welcome to “Video Editing Workflow for Filmmakers,” the only course designed for filmmakers editing their own film. In this exciting course, you will be learning the workflow for how to set up your editing projects, all the things that you will do in a day, from importing raw footage all the way to exporting a film for final delivery.

By the time you have finished this course, you will be light years ahead of other editors who know how to use editing software but feel overwhelmed and anxious while editing because they haven’t yet developed an efficient workflow for the post-production phase of their film. You will learn how to start with an empty timeline and finish with a completed film you are proud of.

Over the years, the role of an editor has evolved. There once was a time when an editor only cut the picture, and someone else dealt with the sound. But nowadays, that isn’t the case. An editor has become a one-person band. It is a new reality that has come about partly by the democratization of equipment, faster computers, laptops, smaller cameras, and other technological innovations that allow one person to do a lot more than they could do years ago. This course addresses this new reality.

“Video Editing Workflow for Filmmakers” will show you how to organize your footage, do an assembly edit, an offline edit, sound design, and export your film for television, web, or even theatrical release. You will see all these things in real-time from start to finish.

To get the most out of this course, we invite you to write down the steps outlined in a checklist form. During each stage of post-production, you can refer to these checklists to remember what to do next. This will make things a whole lot easier and prevent you from feeling overwhelmed.

One final note: this course is for filmmakers who already feel comfortable working with their editing software of choice. It doesn’t matter if you prefer Final Cut Pro, Avid, or Adobe Premiere. This course runs on the principle that all these pieces of software are tools. Whichever software you prefer, feel free to use it. I designed the ideas presented in this course to work for all of them.

Thank you for watching “Video Editing Workflow for Filmmakers,” and we hope you enjoy the course.

Who this course is for:

  • This course is designed for passionate filmmakers who are well versed in the art of cinema. The examples in this course are edited using Adobe Creative Cloud, but if you are an Avid or Final Cut Pro editor, you can still follow along. However, whichever software you are using, make sure that you are experienced enough with that software to follow along comfortably.

I liked the pacing of this course and the use of different editing tactics. It was terrific that they used raw footage from an actual feature film to illustrate different editing techniques and then went back over them and explained how it was done. That was the best part of the course. These lessons provided a lot of practical information about a wide variety approaches.
But overall this was a very useful course and I plan to follow the advice to practice as much as possible to become familiar with the techniques before actually editng my next film.

English is my second language. The lessons go very quickly. I am still giving this course 5 stars because I like the opportunity to watch him edit a real film from start to finish. I find this very advantageous compared to the Adobe Premiere course that I took on Udemy. I am learning very valuable information.

It’s a basic course on how to edit a movie project. The Offline editing is the best part because it really helps on how to organize the project and work on a huge chunck of raw material until the real editing begins. But the Online editing part on falls flat a little. It could have more examples on color grading.

I gained a much better working understanding of the editor’s workflow through working examples and different scenarios explaining various methods. I am going to pass this information on to my students.

Great course. I have had trouble finding an editing course that breaks down a film editor’s workflow. Many just cover how to use a software. Thanks!

Exactly what I was looking for. I’ve done edits on very short projects of about 3-15 minutes in finished length with maybe an hour or two of footage to cut. I can usually just rely on memory to be organized, but not so much with bigger projects. I was looking for something to help me organize larger projects where I have many more hours to edit and cut. That’s what this course does. I now have an idea of how to approach my larger project without wasting time.

The course is really good and I would recommend it but I can’t download the raw footage in the resources.

It was interesting as to see what is a video editing workflow (organizing footage, editing the clips, sound, color, titles and exporting). It’s a good overview.

The course is fast but very informative Not very technical.(Which is good) The only reason I gave it a half star is because there wasn’t really any talks to cinematic language which is important when being an editor.

I found the course very helpful. I began editing back in 2003 but stopped for various reasons, so this course was useful to update my skills that already exist.

I learned soooo much! I have to say, I am so grateful, because I just started learning (I am a stage director) and this really helped me getting a direction how to proceed further and how to organize myself! So thank you!
