Today, trainers must know every aspect of how to conduct a blended learning system, create video and multimedia content, and run a flipped classroom.
There are plenty of good trainers in the world but there are few highly skilled at training other trainers. TJ Walker is one of the premier trainers in the world over the last two decades. He shares his wisdom gained in the trenches with every single student.
You may currently be an excellent subject matter expert, but that doesn’t mean you know how to train. Training is a highly specific skill, just as writing is a skill or reading. Unfortunately, few people are ever taught in school or the corporate world how to be a successful and skilled trainer. Now, this is your opportunity to leapfrog over competitors and other trainers In your organization and industry.
Train the Trainer – Imagine yourself training small and large groups of people how to do what you do best. How to Be a TrainerÂ

A good trainer mush be a good teacher, coach, public speaker and consultant. This course will teach you various aspects of the profession with special emphasis on how to conduct training sessions. The number one blunder most beginning trainers is dumping too much data in a boring manner to their students or trainees. A good trainer focuses on measurable results in terms of new skills and competences displayed by the trainees, not by how many boxes of content that can be checked off during a day.Â

Here is what Udemy students say about this course:
“TJ’s course is just amazing! He is so authentic and realistic with a lot of very good advises. I like the fact that you are not forced to go through the whole course, but to pick and choose according to your own needs and situation. The only thing that puts me under pressure is the recording of myself (aaarrgghh, so mean and hard…hahaha), but I know that it’s worth it because I would leave my comfort zone and will grow with this challenge. Well, my time will come eventually ;-)” Elena Gomera Deano
“It is really wonderful, even though you spend hours in listening you wont get tired and it encourages you to keep going as you learn new things.” James Kevin Antonio

I think calling this a “Trainer” bootcamp is a little misguided. Yes, a lot of content in here is applicable to trainers since, by job requirement, we speak in front of others. However, that really is the only thing that’s focused on in this course. It’s basically a slightly modified public speaking course, and some sections (I’m looking at you PowerPoint) are the same material restated over and over again in different ways. If you are going to call this a course on training trainers, there are many facets of the trainer job mostly ignored in this course – ways to encourage interaction, ideas for activities for class, structural guidance, etc. The public speaking content certainly is valuable – but I have been a trainer for 15 years and public speaking is not the job skill I need to focus on right now (which is why I didn’t do the assignments; I watch myself speak and critique it every day in my Zoom courses). I was really looking more for ways to shake up and drive participation in my courses, which I don’t feel I’ve gotten from this course at all. Granted, I’m 1/4 of the way through so perhaps that will change, but looking at the topics ahead I don’t anticipate my review changing much after completion. If so I will be sure to modify this review.
That said, I think TJ is an excellent public speaker and for folks who are new to training or training development, who don’t understand best practices when it comes to speaking and presentations, there is definitely information to be gained which is why I gave 3 stars. There is also great information on what to consider if you’re interested in having your own training business. It just wasn’t what I was looking for, nor is it, in my opinion, a comprehensive course as it pertains to the everyday trainer job. Most of us with this job title are teaching people very specific skills, not giving keynotes! We need more topics than just how to be a good speaker and presenter.

Insightful at the very early stage. Excited and nervous for TJ’s feedback on my video… will share the link soon. 🙂
After Class Comment:
I find it very helpful although it makes me feel that it is more leaning into Media training rather than Train the Trainer. I think TJ can add Instructional Design topics too.

I’m a manufacturing trainer so some of the content is easily applicable because the learning is ALREADY hands-on. The mindset he’s describing is also one I completely agree with, having gone through training myself

It was captivating from the very beginning, I am excited about this class as I need to master the art of public speaking without so much panic and anxiety.

This course is what I was just looking for. I’ve been doing Vlogging and pretty much no longer have the fear of speaking in public but I always wondered if there are still ways of how I could better myself when it comes to presentation, training and keeping the conversation/training relevant as I am currently undergoing an apprenticeship for an Enablement specialist/trainer.
TJ is awesome, no doubts with that but could have been better by maybe having the podcast interviews as an optional course as some people may have already an idea/experience when it comes to the tips they shared.
Other than that, I’d say I learned a lot in the 2 days I took this training. Thanks, TJ!
