I have seen this material in books before — but it was really cool to HEAR the different variations right when he explained them. As soon as I heard him detune the second oscillator I thought “wow, there’s that analog synth sound!”
kristian Hansen –
A really detailed and reasonably well explained course on everything that involves synthesisers. Pretty happy with the instructor and the content.
Tuomas Yli-Olli –
Good course that covered the basics. I knew almost nothing of synths before and now I understand what they are talking about in more advanced material. It would have been nice to have a clear named section where we create lead, bass, pad sounds and give some info what are typically their basic components and perhaps similar thing how some cliche tricks/effects are done in electronic music.
James Tavakoli –
I like the course. He explained a lot of concepts really well. It would be great to see a little more of how he is setting up Ableton. I was able to figure it out, but I’m not an Ableton user so it took a minute.
Julie Peasley –
This class was great. It was exactly what I was looking for. Jason gives clear explanations of the concepts of synthesis. He makes the abstract concrete and takes you through all the basics while demystifying what all those buttons and knobs do!
He is easy to understand and I liked his casual, cool style. I am re-watching his videos because I always learn more. There is a lot of info packed in here. I’m glad he focuses on Reason (as well as Ableton) because that is the program I’m trying to learn. But his emphasis is on the underlying concepts of all synthesizers so you can use any synth in any DAW or even analog. As a newbie with no prior knowledge in synths, I’m really glad I picked Jason’s course out of all of the possible choices. This review goes for his sampling class as well.
Pierre Blarre –
Good stuff, nice chap, also, I like how he mimics the sounds and effects with his voice 🙂
John Coates –
Definitely solidified my understanding of synthesis, pairs really well the sampling & analog class
Wim Kamps –
I learn a lot about what the controlls on a synth do and that’s exactly what the doctor ordered
Gabor Guta –
I like the class in general, the explanation of signal shapings could be more intuitive / visual.
Matt Carlson –
great topics easy to understand. he does repeat the same thing over and over a lot.
S S –
Not much detail given
Daniel Bennett –
Very simple and easy to understand and straight to the point
