In this foundational course, I teach you how to play piano as a singer/songwriter. It’s a unique method that takes somebody with zero musical experience and transforms them into a piano wielding singer/songwriter.
This method has been refined over the last 3 years as I’ve taught more and more artists in New York and Los Angeles.
Every lecture builds upon the previous lecture. I walk you through the whole process as efficiently as possible, taking every effort to find ways to cut your learning time in half.
Watch the lectures, complete the challenges, and enjoy playing! By the end you should be able to pick a song, adjust the song to most singable key for your voice, and accompany yourself on the piano.
You should take this course if you think you’d have fun playing the songs you love and exploring how piano wielding singer/songwriters like Carol King, Alicia Keys, and Ben Folds express themselves on the piano.
This is a foundational course for beginners. This course is meant to be an alternative to a traditional piano lesson schedule.
If you love playing, writing and singing songs, this course is for you.
Hope to see you on the inside!

Who this course is for:
- Complete beginners or pianists with no “modern piano” experience
- This course is geared towards singer/songwriters, but additionally serves as the foundation for all contemporary piano playing. If you are interested in modern piano this is for you.
- You can “hand a person a fish” or “teach them how to fish” – this is not a tutorial where I teach you how to play one song (hand you a fish), this is a method that teaches you how to play any song you want (how to fish). If you’re looking for a tutorial and immediate gratification this is not for you.

The course is called Piano for Singer/Songwriters | Write songs and Perform Live! He didn’t teach how to write songs. There was just a 3 minute video towards the end saying, “Play chord progressions and make up words. Anything more than that is beyond the scope of this course.” I was crushed when I realized there would not be any songwriting. Also, there was no content on performing live. I bought this to be able to write songs and perform and received no real instructions on that. He needs to change the title. Then I can give it five stars because the piano playing part is excellent.

Lots of great information presented really well. I have lots of other tutorials and books so I am not solely relying on this to teach me so I cannot say if this would be enough for you but it certainly helped me a lot to clarify some of my knowledge and clear up some points that may have been lacking in my previous reading. So highly recommend this course it will definitely be a good addition to your musical journey.

This course was sooo helpful! Only what was needed was shared and it was laid out in a very easy to digest way. I’m already seeing huge improvements in my skills! Now, to practice, practice, perform!

Great Course. I come from a background of fingerstyle acoustic guitar so I understand the formation of chords. But the concept of Voice Leading was fascinating to transpose to tight chord voicing on my guitar. Something I believe Jazzers do a lot. I’ve not really played the keyboard much even though I was gifted one. This has wetted my appetite. It seems a bit easier with the notes laid out in linear fashion with one middle C whereas I have a choice of four on the guitar! Thank you for the inspiration. I have set my task for learning “Imagine” which I already play on guitar so should be doable, maybe!

It was more basic than my level. level 2 rock rhythms was more basic side as well but I did learn some new rhythm styles I hadn’t been introduced to before. That being said I still give Rob 5 stars because for someone who is just beginning on the piano this course is a perfect starter course and it will get you playing songs write away and Rob is an excellent instructor. He has a certain peaceful about him and he has this amazing ability to explain things in such a way that you just get it. I have purchased 5 courses from him and have learned so much. I really recommend the 6 chords course where he explains the different chord Progressions and how song writers create their art. Rob is a fantastic teacher and really makes learning piano easy. All you need is a few Progressions and rhythm styles and you can play hundreds of songs. Thank you Rob for teaching me so much.

Good information i heard of but havn’t covered yet. Well this paritcular course could use more effort from maker so far only hafway thru.
As opposed to just showing patters of chords and rhytm patters. Then expecting a student to decipher a song based on ear alone. maybe later in the course he accually breaks down a song or a few for us apply his technique. We are begginers. How can anyone expect us to hear the notes and chord patterns by just listening. Maybe with years of practice. Overall it seems like good system once you have a developed ear and experience. But I will not know until time passes if I can play songs bassed on this technique. “Beginner” should never be associated with this course. I though the course would break down a song. Or show us how to apply a piano to a song. Not just show ideas to apply and interpret on our own. Its nice the website ultimate guitar he pointed out. Maybe if he breaks down how to apply their prints out to a song. Because all i see is an outline with chords and lyric which seem to be a best guess. No real instruction like sheet notes to play song. Well, to conclude this course is NOT for beginners! It should come with warning or disclaimers saying. You will not get this information until you have experience and practice and developed you musical ear. And are able to play a song just be hearing it. I am about halfway thru course. So maybe the other half ties it all togther? We will see.
