Best training I have seen demonstrating Rembrandt Lighting

I really enjoyed this course and learned so much. The instructor, John was very careful in explaining each and every detail. The Classic Rembrandt shadow and the small adjustments to lighting were very interesting. The wording at the bottom of the video really helped with my note taking and I also really enjoyed the pro-tips, esp. the “head forward and down.” I will definitely be checking out other courses taught by John Haase!

I felt the course was very focused and the end result was just what I was looking for.
Day’ton Capers –
Explains the why, concise but still has enough information for you to get it. Takes time to demonstrate everything he says, but does not make it long and drawn out.

Another excellent presentation from John. Well presented and welcome the tips and little gems of information that you won’t find in other learning material.

Even when I liked the Rembrandt lighting lectures, I have couple of comments on the course:
1. I found, with the exception of the Rembrandt part, that 30-40% of the material is a duplication from the course “Portrait photography – Shoot amazing headshots…”
2. The male model as in the “Portrait photography – shoot amazing headshots…” DOES NOT looks natural neither he looks nice in any of his poses and photos. More than look flatered he looks funny, unnatural and always posed. Your female models do a better job modeling.
Because of this I whould have to rate the course as a three and would rather recommend “Portrait photography – shoot amazing headshots…” to anyone as a 5 stars.
thanks,
Janlet

Using translate google then the scripting language is not quite easy for me☺️️
I give the highest grade for the course because it gave me good insight into the lighting for this type of motif.
The course leader is absolutely superb with confidence-intensive intentions and nice personality. It really feels that he offers his knowledge, thank you!

I studied this many years ago during the film photography era so I had some knowledge of the subject. I found this to be informative and garnered some new insights beyond just a refresher in terms of the lighting, set-ups and adjustments to the lighting. The segments that covered retouching were somewhat more abstruse, perhaps due to my film background, but I think he runs through techniques a bit fast. This is possibly due to an expectation of more familiarity with the programs, tools, techniques etc. on the instructors part. (Not altogether unreasonable) I kind of skipped over those and concentrated on the lighting segments.

good examples, easy to understand (Part I)
I would have preferred tethered shooting inPart II because the photos had just been shown “a second” and no chance to compare the different results…Part II seems to be done in a hurry…

While the instructor is knowledgeable about the subject matter and the content delivery is moderately engaging. Unless you have access to a large portion of the equipment, it would hard to replicate the lighting effects without being fairly creative with your own equipment and gear. Perhaps having a module on low budget equipment or the creative use of limited resources would be a thing to consider? The resources provided within the course leave quite a bit to be desired. Most resources are simply ‘copy and paste’ links to websites that either don’t work or you are directed to a website that sells the product and/or software.
It’s been awhile since the course has been updated and at this stage of the review, I would give it a pass.

I’m learning a lot about light placement for Rembrandt lighting! I’ve read books, but this is a lot clearer.
