There’s one fundamental thing in music that you can learn which will immediately improve your music compositions.
Without buying the latest sample libraries, without spending months or even years analysing the minute details of music orchestration, and the best news is that you probably already know a little about it.
And that’s melody.
In this melodic music composition course, you’ll learn:
-
A tried and tested method for composing better melodies from scratch
-
How to compose a strong melody over an existing chord sequence
-
What makes a good melody
-
How to compose countermelodies
-
The scales and modes you can use to compose more interesting melodies
I’ve taught literally hundreds of students how to compose music in person, and thousands more online, and I’ve also won awards internationally for my own music, but when I first start teaching a new group of students about composing melody, they often think it doesn’t apply to them.
Maybe you’re into death metal and don’t view that as melodic?
Or perhaps you’re writing minimalist music built on patterns or chord sequences?
Well…here’s the thing: you’re still writing melodic music.
As Leonard Bernstein said: “where there’s music there’s melody, you can’t have one without the other”
I remember one student in particular, Jamie, who was really into rap so didn’t think melody had much to do at all with what he was composing. During our first lesson we sat together and analysed some of his favourite tracks and he went wide eyed, amazed at just how many melodic elements there were in music that he himself had thought wasn’t melodic. He went on to write some of the most intricate, and interesting hip hop music I’ve heard for a long time.
So melodic music writing isn’t about composing “old-fashioned” symphonies or cheesy pop songs. It’s about writing better parts for any type of music.
Whether you’re a music producer with little formal musical training, or a classically trained musician frustrated about why your music isn’t connecting, my course on melodic music is going to help you learn to bring your compositions to life.
When you enrol:
-
You’ll get lifetime access to the music composition program, where I walk you through all of the steps I use to create better melodies.
-
You’ll learn what to listen for while analysing your favourite music, all of the building blocks that are used to put a melody together,
-
I’ll teach you a number of methods of creating and developing a melody, working with harmony, and creating counterpoint.
Remember that you’re protected by a 30-Day-Money-Back-Guarantee, no hard feelings, just in case you discover that the course isn’t right for you.

P.S. it isn’t your mixing holding you back, you don’t need a new sample library, and you don’t need to be a musical prodigy to write great melodies. You just need to know what makes a good melody and apply that to your own compositions.
Enrol today and I’ll show you exactly how.

This wasn’t just a fie star course. It is the best I have seen. Comprehensive, extremely clear and easy to follow. I have Live open and worked along with the lesson. Stopping it to see how it effected a piece I was working on.
wish they were all this good

Great introduction of Fundamentals and Techniques. Section 5 really helps integrate everything…you can begin to see a larger approach to bringing everything together in a very natural fashion.
Watson Davis –
Very good, very clear. Great description of his process to create a melody and then various techniques to expand on it. I found the section on forms and how to expand into larger and larger sections very helpful.

I am not even halfway through the course and I am finding this information to be very useful. The instructor does a great job of explaining all the concepts and breaking down everything.

I think there should be some notes or outline it that is provided as a written complement to the video. In other words, some sort of summary or even syllabus. It would be very valuable to give definition to the terms as well, like a glossary of specific melodic structures. This would also allow someone to try each of the different melodic permutations that are presented, using their own motif. So, “homework,“ would be more accessible. As it is, I have to slow the video stop it right down the terms, etc.

This has been a wonderful and inspiring course to take. I want to write music that is not constrained by my ability on the guitar. Now I have completed the course I feel the music I hear in my imagination but have been unable to create on the guitar are within the realms of possibility. I am excited about my musical future whereas before taking this course I was bewildered and a bit overwhelmed.
Thank you Jonny for making such an insightful and informative course.

Informative so far!!! I’m enjoying every video of this course. This is how learning should be: having fun and not worrying about technicalities and stuffs. (and also, I love that he quotes P. Patterson. I read some of his books, and as this author solidified some of P stuffs, the books are really worth the reads.

I’m a novice at best, so this is my first introduction to this type of composing. I thought it was excellently presented and easy to understand.

This course really helped me understand why some of my melodies sound good and others do not. This is the science behind what is needed to have a great melody.

I have limited music background: I have played the piano for 6 months and read one music theory book. But I have always loved music and had a urge to compose, but I did not know where to start. This course is exactly what I needed. Now I not only have the tools the analyze why some melodies sound good, but also a step-by-step guide to compose my own (either from scratch or by using a progression). The lecture on countermelodies is also very helpful. Johnny walks through examples that he has created just for the course, and also provided Youtube links to other illustrative examples. I am very grateful for the patient guidance that Jonny offers.
