Yoga is a whole life process. This includes our private practice time, as well as when living our actions (karmas) in the world. Thus, karma yoga is not a separate practice, but a very useful aspect of that one, whole life process of Yoga.
The law of Karma is a universal process, whereby causes lead to effects. This is something that all of us are already familiar with, whether or not we use the word Karma to describe it. Newton’s third law of motion, that every action leads to a reaction, is an application of the law of Karma. Whether we are talking about physics or daily life in the world, it is extremely useful to understand the law and process of Karma so that we may regulate or direct the process. Then, gradually, we can come to know, in direct experience, the Joy of Being that is Beyond the Karma.
We can soften the impact of the playing out of our past Karmas, and can choose our own future Karma if we are willing to put in the effort to learn how to do it. This course offers both clear explanations of the traditional concepts of karma, and practical ways of living in and going beyond karma.
Who this course is for:
- Everybody who is interested in the relationship between Karma and Yoga
- People with a background in Yoga
- People who practice Meditation

Wonderful explication of an important aspect of the yoga darshan, at once deep & very practical … I particularly appreciate how basic points are reiterated thru-out the presentation to reinforce memory, comprehension, & usefulness …
Peter Hartley –
Good start. Well informed. Found the delivery rather demanding as the ideas were presented very quickly.

Excellent! I nice review of Karma and how all of the pieces fall into place. I’ve studied this stuff for years but has anyone ever provided a systematic description for me? No, not until now. Thank you Swamiji!

He seems like he really knows what he’s talking about.
I especially loved the segment on archery and meditation – how our meditation on the right thoughts, words, and actions in the external world goes hand in hand, and complements our efforts in our private yoga meditation, lowering the samskaras that we have to bear the burden of observing in a loving way. Personally, i’ve also found this kind of “arrow shooting” metaphor useful in relating to food consumption and my diet. I have been trying to avoid sugar, and intense spicy, junky food and coffee that throws my sleep cycle off. The more days I can manage to string together in shooting the arrow at my target diet – low sugar, low coffee, low junky spicy food – the less likely I am to consciously choose those foods. I have, however, shot way too many arrows deep into the ice cream freezer and my body is still dealing with those consequences, making me all the more determined to try to keep shooting at the target – soybean vegetable soup, for example. But I can be gentle with myself if i’m offered a slice of pizza.

Great for starting out but even if you’ve been “doing” yoga for ages, this adds depth and breathes new life into your practice. I have been doing yoga for about 3 years now and am only now, with this course, realising what it was that was missing from my yoga practice: meditation. This is a great introduction to the basic principles of yoga and karma living. It makes the concepts accessible and practical. Simple, yet effective. I thank the instructor for making this course and making these teachings accessible – changing lives half a world away.
