A great “baby’s first Golden Gate” class for those who want to understand the very basics of how GG works and how to setup their own super-basic learning environment (Oracle-to-Oracle). The course provides the Linux VMs and instructions for setting up both the databases and GG instances. Students may have some trouble with VM network config if they’re not familiar with Linux admin, but the lectures do (eventually) provide instruction on how to fix such issues.
The presenter came across as extremely knowledgeable. I really enjoyed that he didn’t use any setup wizards and showed us, step-by-step, how to start and configure each process in Golden Gate such that we can replicate simple table data. I also enjoyed that he took a lot of time explaining what each process is, what it does, how to get information on the process (logs, errors, etc), and even gave a bit of advice on how to tune and improve very basic performance on Golden Gate.
The one real problem I have: the videos are in desperate need of editing, especially at the beginning and end. The “lectures” here are just raw video uploads of the instructor’s live-streamed course, and I can’t count the number of times I found myself having to skip ahead several minutes to ignore the instructor and live students chatting or filing into the class or getting audio issues worked out. The actual instruction portions were excellent, but such “filler” should have been cut out before uploading.
Overall, I’d say it’s well worth it if you’ve never touched GG before like I hadn’t. I now feel much more confident in my understanding of how GG works and how to get it running for an Oracle-to-Oracle system.

I really did enjoy this and I learned a lot. I have never been exposed to GG so this was a great introduction. I just went through this so I only had the video. If possible, I would suggest making the e-mails you mention throughout the course available to subscribers like myself. I also understand that I was able to take this for a much lower price than those that sat through the actual course and I appreciate the availability of this opportunity so if there nothing more you can do about the e-mails, I certainly understand.

The class was very basic and good. Some of the links don’t work. The Facebook student support group doesn’t exist anymore. I don’t see the instructor answers the Q & A anymore.
