Mike Stitt –
Excellent finger picking course. Has taken me from the basics through to some significantly more complex material. Enjoyable, clear and at just the right pace to allow me to go on further from this.

This is something I have wanted to learn on guitar for many years. This course makes the learning process easy and fun. No stress because I can take it at my own pace.

The aim of this course is to teach fingerstlyle guitar to beginners. The instructor present very clearly the techniques to be taught in each video. Certainly, even a very beginner can improve with this course. The purpose of many peoples interested in music is to be able to play, sing songs they learned, not just to learn different techniques. In the section about roll (ex. 8) Stuart Ryan says that this technique taught is very useful in banjo and blues, unfortunately, he does not teach an example to apply it.
The second section very interesting is about connecting chords. The instructor teach a series of progressions on which are applied fingerstyle patterns. He says in the first exercise that such patterns where very popular in the 60s and 70s, unfortunately, he does not teach any song from this period, which used this pattern.
The next section is very interesting, Stuart Ryan presents in full details how with a simple melody, one can create a blues with the E chord by adding bass lines and syncopation. We would definitively, have liked to play a fingerstyle blues song which is constructed like so. Unfortunately, the instructor does not provide any reference about that.
In the next section, he teaches icons styles. We do believe that the material taught in that section will definitively, help us to play songs of these icons, but which ones ? The instructor is not referring any of icons songs.
Surprisingly, in the last section, instead of illustrating, roll techniques, icons, fingerstyle blues, with concrete songs built with the material previously taught, the instructor has chosen to teach Auld Lang Syne and Danny Boy.
To conclude, we can see that this course is very interesting, because, it contained a lot of techniques like rolls patterns, travis picking like patterns, percussions, blues syncopations,… but unfortunately, it does not really help the beginner to build a repertoire by learning modern songs. This is very surprising, we could have expected that such a talented instructor, winner of many awards will have design a course more enjoyable.

So far it seems the instructor is moving too quickly. Did I miss, at the beginning, the instructor what level of guitar player he expected this class to be.

I have enjoyed the pace of this course and the teaching style. Clear views of the picking hand with the instructor setting the pace in the play along. Very helpful in developing the muscle memory for the picking patterns.
