Your success as a copywriter depends on your ability to persuade.
As a salesperson behind a keyboard, your job is to persuade people to buy products and services. Your job as a copywriter is not to be clever, or witty, or to win awards. Your job is to persuade.
Â
Welcome to Copywriting for Beginners, Part Three of Three: Persuasion.
Â
I’m your instructor, Alan Sharpe.
Â
I got started as a copywriter in 1989.
Â
In the years since then, I’ve worked as a freelancer and as an in-house copywriter at an ad agency.
Â
I have written in all of the channels—offline, online, outdoor, mobile and broadcast.
Â
I have written print ads, radio commercials, email newsletters, sales letters, banner ads, product packaging, brochures, factsheets, case studies, slogans and plenty more for Apple, IBM, Bell, Re/Max, Hilton Hotels and hundreds of other clients worldwide.
Â
I got married, bought a house, and raised two kids on my copywriting salary alone.
Â
In case you’re wondering, I’ve been teaching copywriting since 1995.
Â
On Udemy, I teach copywriting to over thirteen thousand students from one hundred and thirty-nine countries.
Â
I am one of the top-rated instructors in the copywriting niche on Udemy.

I recommend going through all three of Alan’s beginner courses, as they go well together. The first two set out more general rules and principles (but with plenty of examples), and this course comes in with a lot of tips and tricks.
I like Alan’s friendly style of explaining, and was pleasantly surprised by the final lesson taking an unexpected written form, which was very effective for me. I’ll need to go through this course once again, as there was a lot of info.
I’d suggest adding a quiz or two to this course, just as the first two beginner courses. Or, perhaps, the questions could take on example form, e.g. three headlines selling a VR headset to an architecture firm, but pick the most effective one, explaining which principles were used.
Another suggestion would be a written recap of the previous (few) lesson(s) every now and then. For me, that helps sediment the information I’ve been given in verbal form.
Thank you, Alan.

This course is extremely helpful. I’ve been copywriting for a year and was in a rut. Sure I sold a lot of products because I am an influencer on YouTube. But when the sales started to stagnate. I needed to improve my skills. I originally bought the headline course. I loved it, it was everything I was looking for so I bought this course too. It was the best decision I made. To learn copywriting from a pro like this would of costed thousands. I’m going to get every single course and treat it as if I was getting a university degree in copywriting. I’m mixing and matching your methods with others. But still, it was an amazing course.

Alan’s three courses contained a wealth of knowledge and I now feel I have a grasp on the fundamentals of copy writing. My only suggestion is that I would have liked to see an outline or recap at the end of the course.

This course was great! It goes over everything you need to learn what copywriting is and how to do it. It is presented in a straight forward and basic way but doesn’t talk down to you.
I have taken the first two parts in this course series and gave 5 stars each time. I gave this one 4 stars because it was as good as the other parts but this one was missing some practical application. I was waiting on an assignment or activity to use what was taught. I thought the end of part 2 would have something, but when it didn’t I thought for sure that there would be some practical application in part 3.
I took lots of notes and was a bit disappointed at the end when there was nothing to do. I want to do this professionally but I’d hate my first paying gig to be my first time actually doing a full assignment with a creative brief and everything.
Other than that, the 3rd part of this course was very informative.

I am not a writer. I started off completely ignorant about copy-writing. Now, not as much. Great in-depth explanations for terms that I didn’t have pull up on Google. Very appreciative of the instructor and course layout. Definitely seeking out more of Alan’s courses to build on what I learned. Thank you!
