Computational Fluid Dynamics Fundamentals Course
What you’ll learn
-
The fundamentals of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) that are used by engineers, scientists and researchers
-
How to set up and solve your first CFD solution from first principles (using Excel, Python or MATLAB)
-
The importance of central differencing, upwind differencing and Peclet number
-
A common framework to solve any scalar transport equation in CFD
An introduction to the fundamentals of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) that are used to solve complex fluid dynamics problems (weather prediction, aircraft flight, turbomachinery) by researchers, scientists and engineers around the world. The course starts from first principles and you will rapidly develop your first CFD solution using the Excel sheets and Python source code provided. By the end of the course, you will understand the importance of upwind differencing, Peclet number and mesh resolution. No prior experience is required and no specific CFD code/coding experience is required! You do not need ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM, Star CCM or any other CFD to use this course.

Great course and very well structured. It helped me a lot. Thanks.

This course was a great fit for me and I really enjoyed it. Having a background in fluid mechanics made this easier than it probably would have been otherwise but the level of detail and the quality of explanation makes the content incredibly accessible. This course was a nice combination of refresher information that helps translate theoretical simulation knowledge to a more practical level that is useful in the field.
Sharath Navada –
This course is a time well spent! Short and concise, explained pretty nicely. I liked the fact that he didn’t get too much bogged down by calculations as it sometimes deviates from the physical meaning of the problems.
If I had one problem, I wish the course would include one bonus section at the end where the instructor explains his codes. That would be very useful as many students who come from non-coding background would get a basic understanding of the workings of the code.

Thank you for the structured explanation. Some practical examples could have helped in understanding concepts. All in all was a good compacted course. Thanks.
Davis Cole –
Perfect for understanding how Navier-Stokes are discretized, why different schemes are used, and how to handle boundary cases.
The only other thing I could’ve wanted is a code-along walkthrough or something similar, though there are plenty of other resources to find that information.
Thanks Aidan!

This course was my first CFD course. Although CFD contains extremely large areas, course instructor gives valuable and basic information about this course. Throughout the course I can’t see anything to criticize. Instructor explains everything very well and you don’t get confused
