If you know the basics of how an image editing program works but you wondered how the professionals get those slick effects you see around you, then this course is for you! A series of projects cover the spectrum of modern editing techniques – enhancing, retouching, restoring damaged photos, recoloring vintage photos, beauty techniques, artistic effects, emulate the look of famous photographers, get the designer look you see coming out of photography studios – the list goes on.Â
This course is aimed at people who know the basics (although the very basic need to know stuff is covered in a tutorial early on in the course.) The Little Box of Tricks takes a project based approach. Over 8.5 hours, 50 videos and over 25 projects take you through a kaleidoscope of technique. Resources are included when needed, and as well as telling you which buttons to press, I’ll tell you why to do things a certain way, along with a few gotchas to watch out for.
You’ve chosen a good platform with Affinity Photo. Now let me give you some of my 25+ years experience as a designer. Learn pro techniques, Learn pro practices. Get the pro look.
Who this course is for:
- People who wish to use pro techniques to enhance their photos
- People with at least a basic understanding of how an image editing program works

Resource files are sometimes missing, presenter seems in a rush, does a lot of the work off camera where you can’t learn from it

I have learnt so much but what is more import have gained confidence in challenging myself in areas i would in the past shy away from. Thank you.
Bob Ohnstad –
Affinity is amazing and I feel much more comfortable using it now that I’ve taken this course.

Another great course from Simon. Some things are less interesting for me than others but of course I watched the course in its entirety as there are always one or two tricks that you can apply to other things.
Some of them are quite elaborate and lengthy processes, but they also have a lot of potential to bring your photos to a new level. I was amazed by the possibilities of restoring a photo that had many serious problems.
Afterwards, I dared to work on my own old photos of similarly poor quality of my parents and skipped the essential points of Simon in order to always have enough layers for each effect or process. I quickly realised that you should take his tips seriously, otherwise you will reach a point where you can almost start from scratch. But that’s how you learn!
Now I would be happy about a course with Affinity Publisher with different examples. Maybe something like that will come sometime? 🙂

My third class of Simon’s thus far and each time I pickup new techniques and reinforce old ones. Thank you so much.

Some of the course seems a bit haphazard at the beginning, but it improves. Found the re-colouring of B&W images very informative.
Cesare Dolce –
