***Updated to cover Affinity Photo 1.10!***
âIâve learned some of the tools with Affinity Photo, but how do I actually enhance an image, start to finish?â
That was the question I saw asked on the Affinity Photo forums. And I thought: âGood point!â So here is a course designed with just that in mind. Iâll take you through the development of a series of photos using a variety of workflows. We start with a simple workflow thatâs just right for beginners then move on to more advanced workflows as the course progresses.
But thereâs a problem. Learning the when and why of an effective workflow is all well and good. But if you have to learn the finer points of the tools at the same time, every tutorial will take forever and you may end up forgetting whether you are supposed to be learning a workflow or a tool. In short, itâs hard to learn the tools when youâre learning about the workflow and itâs near impossible to learn about the workflow when youâre learning about the tools.
So Iâve done both. This course is divided into two sections. You get hours of tutorials which cover various workflows and approaches to developing photos. But you also get a huge reference section which covers the various tools that Affinity Photo has to offer. If thereâs a tool Iâm using in the workflow videos, thereâs a video explaining just that tool in the reference videos. Two ways to learn Affinity Photo. Reference and workflow.
*Update* â I study Udemy courses myself and it struck me how much time I spend making notes I can refer to. I estimate it increases my study time by a factor of at least 4. So Iâve made notes for you! The third lecture of this series has an extra resource â a downloadable 50+ page PDF with a table of contents plus an index. This PDF contains notes based directly upon the Affinity Photo courses I offer. Bullet points, screen shots, tips â they are all there and you can keep the PDF and refer to it whenever you want. This should save you dozens of hours of note taking.
Weâll take a series of photos through every step needed to bring them to a final, polished state. Iâll take you through every stage and explain why we are doing things in a particular order. Iâve given you all the images used on the course to follow along with. Iâll show you problems that can crop up and what do about them. Iâll even show you how to use third party plug ins from the Nik Collection to create incredible effects.
By the end of the course you will have seen and followed along with various effective workflows, start to finish. You will gain the confidence to tackle your own images, be able to select which workflow suits the photo best, and one day soon you may well be looking at one of your own photos which youâve enhanced, and thinking âThat looks fantastic! I did thatâŠâ

Being a complete novice to Affinity and Photoshop I was able to complete a high quality digital fine art project from these tutorials. I found them to be well structured and easy to follow – like another student I completed Section 2: The reference videos first and then I was able to concentrate on Section 1: The workflow. What I really find helpful is the structure of the tutorials, they are well thought out and labelled – easy to refer back to as one cant be expected to remember this treasure chest of expert info. Now onto Simon Fosters Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo landscape tutorials – Thanks Simon, nice work!

I enjoyed the course although at times some ‘americanism’ was creeping in. Many times I mistook ‘Control Z’ as ‘Control C’ where ‘Z’ was pronounced ‘zee’. Other than that for a Basic upwards course I enjoyed it but I will need to look at some of the videos again just to understand a bit more regarding masks and layers and where to use them.

I have finished all the videos in your course and this is as expected, it really helped me in my transition from Adobe Photoshop to Affinity Photo with very detailed explanations accompanied by practice. I also got some information that I didn’t know and it was very useful for me and good jokes too! Thank you very much for this course, I hope it will help me to go to the next level. Thanks again!

So far this course is very informative. The Instructor has a very nice teaching manner. If you are new to Affinity Photo or switching from another program this is a good one to learn with.

This is really helping, it’s much easier than reading a manual. I like the detailed resource videos, I like being able to dip in and out of the workflow videos to fill my gaps of knowledge. I now understand what the Curves adjustment layer is doing! I also can see how there is more than one way to do the same thing. Very useful.

Love his conversational approach. Did not need photoshop stuff.

Very in depth tutorials. I enjoy Simon’s voice and humor too. Half the star deducted because nothing is perfect and I know most of the stuff already đ
Basharat Ahmad –
Great work by Simon. I really enjoyed learning.

This course was perfect for me. I can highly recommend it! I am sure I will lookup the reference section again and again and again because there is so much stuff in it that I can hardly learn it within one view. This course is e-learning at it’s best. Thank you very much Simon. Best regards Jens
