What you’ll learn

  • Understand the why engineers would want to create an app with Ethereum
  • Build compelling blockchain applications using the Ethereum Blockchain
  • Design, test, and deploy secure Smart Contracts
  • Learn the true purpose and capabilities of Ethereum and Solidity
  • Use the latest version of Ethereum development tools (Web3 v1.0)
  • See practical examples to comprehend what the blockchain and mining are

Smart Contracts? They’re here.  The Ethereum Blockchain?  Covered.  Solidity?  Yep!

There can be no understating it: Ethereum and Blockchain technology is the most disruptive force in years.  Companies cannot hire developers who understand blockchain technologies fast enough, but there are a tiny number of resources published to help you truly understand what blockchains are used for, let alone build apps with them.  That’s the purpose of this course: to be the best resource online for learning about Ethereum, blockchains, and how to build apps with this new technology.

The development community is still figuring out the best way to use Ethereum in the creation of new and exciting apps.  I spent a tremendous amount of time to research and create best practice for interfacing with Ethereum from Javascript.  I can’t overstate it enough; this course will show you the best and most easily repeatable patterns for creating production-ready apps with Ethereum.

What tools and libraries are used?

The Ethereum tech ecosystem is in constant change.  Don’t be fooled by other courses that mention how you’ll learn a dozen different libraries!  Every library that you’ll use with Ethereum breaks and is deprecated on a near-weekly basis!  Instead, this course will teach you how to assemble your own boilerplate package to develop, compile, and test Smart Contracts.  By learning the core technologies, you’ll be prepared to adjust to Ethereum no matter how the ecosystem changes.

What is Ethereum?

Ethereum is a cryptocurrency much like Bitcoin, and it has been heralded as Bitcoins successor.  Whereas Bitcoin currently has issues scaling with an increasing backlog of transactions, Ethereum is poised to surpass Bitcoin in performance, popularity, and value.  Ethereum was created to help developers like you create applications focused around transferring money or value from one party to another.

What is Solidity?

Solidity is a programming language for writing Smart Contracts.  Essentially, think of it as a way to control a bank account with code.  With Solidity, we can write applications that simulate a crowd funding campaign, a lottery, a loan, or any other type of financial instrument.  Don’t be intimidated by learning ‘another’ programming language; Solidity is known to be quite similar to Javascript and exceptionally easy to pick up for anyone who has previous JS experience.  This course will give you all the tools you need to master Solidity.

Who this course is for:

  • Programmers looking to leverage blockchain technology for advanced apps
  • Engineers who want to understand Ethereum and how to build apps with it

Hey Stephen I really enjoyed the course. It was very educational not only on blockchain side but on react too. I hope to see you in other courses as well

Stephen went in depth not on the Ethereum side only but also on React.js and Next.js. He gave the basics of what’s required to start building your own app. Great content!

Stephen is an excellent teacher. Explains all the concepts in depth and revisits them throughout the course. One thing I’d want others to keep in mind is that, if you get stuck, just look at the Q&A section, someone someplace for sure has faced the same or at least similar problem, Goodluck!

Stephen Grider does it again. Another great course. Only wish we didn’t spend as much time on the frontend at the end even though he said a million times that it’ll be okay.

I really enjoyed this course. Great explanations and although some content was a little out of date, he did a good job of adding extra slides to explain any changes.

Hi, thanks for this course. I’ve get some insight how to build a smart contract using Solidity.

Beside that, you give knowledge about how to code using Javascript framework (Node.js and React.js).

Your steps is clear and the contents always be updated. Nice works.

I really appreciate the method of presenting contents here. It is very efficient. Unfortunately, after few weeks of digging into Solidity and Ethereum AFTER finishing this course, I feel that it is not a ‘complete’ guide for developers. There is a lot of concepts missing. And many times we’ve heard ‘we will cover that later’, but to be honest, sometimes it was very short or not covered at all and it was a bit disappointing.

Solidity, React, and NextJS courses in one. Outdated version but still doable, you just need to update yourself

He is great in explaining everything, great teacher. The only reason I cut off one star which is not lots of active student. I learned this course in late 2021, and it is really hard to get help, even in Q&A section, most of them were from 3 years ago.
    I highly recommend this instructor.

Course is good. I was able to get a quick grasp on Solidity and smart contracts. I did, however, rely on other videos and articles to understand a little bit more about blockchain and the ethereum world as even though there’s an introductory chapter, this wasn’t enough for me to understand the how, why and what. Course is also super outdated, both regarding Solidity and Next/React. I do have lots of frontend experience so this wasn’t an issue for me as I mostly skipped those parts but might be annoying for someone trying to learn both.

Overall great course! Leads to actual understanding of the topic. There are some drawbacks though. Firstly, it’s recorded few years ago, with quite old versions of solidity and some other tools. There are a textual upgrade instructions, though. Secondly, it spends a way too much time in React. At least 6-7 hours of this course are pure React, not related to solidity. It would be nice to clearly mark these sections so that students can skip them. But again, overall great course!
