I am new to MS Access and this course covered a lot of things that a beginner would expect. A practice database is provided at the start of the course and you can simultaneously work on that file. That helped me a lot. I would have loved if more time is spent on queries. If there could be a section or chapter that covers basic functionalities of excel like “text-to-column” and what alternatives we have in Access that would help. This course doesn’t cover if there are any visual capabilities of reports in Access. Overall, a great course to start.

Good intro to access course that gets your feet wet without drowning. This is my first “formal” class in over 10 years. I’m used to learning on the fly in the hot seat and normally struggle with anything to academic in nature. Lesson 72 on Three best practices actually helped a lot click for me and honestly I wish i would have seen it a lot earlier in the course, perhaps after the basic object sections. I will be going thru the course again, and just had the thought that a harder quiz option for each section would be amazing for the second run through to really reinforce more of the details. Thanks for this course Bruce, I know I’l be checking out some of your other courses with this one as an example of your work.

The course gave a good overview of MS Access and the basic tools for establishing a working database. However I felt that it showed only one way of doing things even if there were multiple options. I also would have appreciated an extra lecture showing how to apply the same principles to a different database that is more oriented for technical people other than for accountants, like how to manage experimental results in a laboratory, or manage data that is mainly qualitative other than quantitative data.

I came into the course with only read only user access knowledge of Microsoft Access Forms. Now that I’ve completed the course, I feel like I’ve got a decent understanding of how to use Access, and a much greater understanding of how flexible/powerful this tool truly is. I wanted learn this program, as it could potentially open doors to new positions that I’m interested in within my company going forward.
I wanted to explain the 1/2 star reduction from my review. This is down to one specific thing; as a complete beginner, early into the lectures custom criteria/expressions/scripts were heavily utilized. First off, I’m confident that the teacher’s methods are indeed the superior way to work within Access, for sure! I was able to understand the relationships/functions that were occurring, as well. I’m not sure though, if I could successfully modify the custom expressions/relationships learned within this class to fit, say, a personal finance database. If it’s possible to do some of the things learned within the course with the built-in Access functions — instead of custom expressions/functions — I would have liked to seen those alternatives, as well.
The amount of material covered throughout this course is indeed impressive. I do feel confident that I could successfully run queries and build reports from multiple data tables, with a bit of trial and error, and revisiting lessons. I’ve already purchased following courses, and look forward to building an even greater understanding of Microsoft Access!
