4 years ago I bought my first compact camera and took it diving. Today I’ve got thousands of followers on social media, I have won or placed in a few underwater photo contests and I have been recommended in the world’s largest online scuba community as someone to watch.
I’m not a professional photographer, I’m just a part-time diver with a regular job who loves to share what I see in the ocean with others. Unlike all the pro’s out there my journey is fresh in my mind and I know how frustrating it can be trying to learn from people who are so advanced that they have forgotten what it was like to be a beginner.
You can get award-winning footage from a Go Pro or a compact camera – I’ll show you how.
If you are looking to upgrade to a mirrorless or DSLR setup – I remember how frustrating it was trying to get my head around all the accessories I would need to buy, so I will walk you through it.
Let me show you what I wish someone had shown me. I guarantee that your next dive or snorkelling trip will yield you much better results.
This course is a journey – our journey. It’s content is living and I’ll be providing monthly updates with more information as I respond to feedback and I continue to learn and explore.
Who this course is for:
- You are a scuba diver or you enjoy snorkelling
- You notice that all your underwater photos lack the vibrant colours that you saw in the water
- You are about to go on holiday to a tropical destination and you want great photos to share
- You may want to purchase or upgrade a camera system but are unsure what to buy

This course is a must for anyone wanting to get into underwater photography. I have been doing UW photography for some time and have decided to upgrade my kit and learn how to take better photos.
This course has definitely given me a wealth of knowledge on this subject and changed my mind set on what i thought I was doing right!
Duncan firstly starts by explaining the Exposure Triangle in a way that is easy to understand, leaving out the complicated workings and in-depth settings jargon and the other hard to take in info…which you don’t really need to know about in this course. He gives the info needed to understand why and how they work together….with a sprinkle of humor, and then maintains this method in every section through his course.

I uploaded this course as a quick and simple underwater photography refresher. Unfortunately I do not use a compact camera so quite a lot of the course was interesting but not useful. As a first bash Duncan did a good job.

I thought the instructor did fine. All of the information provided was very valuable to me. I was wondering though, you never mention white balancing underwater. I find this to be very affective for video. I’ve also used it for stills with the strobe. Is there a reason you don’t mention white balancing at different depths?
I enjoyed your class, thank you. Sincerely Ron

Awesome course – thanks Duncan!
In depth, well presented professional course and it surely keeps you entertained. Loads of real life examples with pictures & explanations. I’m very much looking forward to your upcoming courses.

I suggest two things:
1) when editing a Photo, please, let the student download a sample to edit while following your instruction.
2) during some sessions, when talking about specific problems, such as wide angle underwater… post in the video more examples!
🙂

It is a good course and a bit of a refresher, I’d say it is more for someone starting off in underwater photography – but it did have a few good tips for the more experienced.

A great intro course. It would be good to have the course updated for the latest tools, e.g., latest GoPro and Olympus TG. Thank you for this course!!

I found that this “course” is more of a seminar than actually providing instruction. While the author presents what to do, he’s not presenting how to do it.

Amazing class! I’ve gone from understanding nothing about manual to feeling fully confident in it. Great for any beginner photographer trying to watch YouTube videos on underwater photography, and learning land tips which don’t help underwater. Thanks so much for the great class!

Piacasa? It has closed long time ago.

Get some good clues on underwater photography, but missing details on how the images where shoot and how the strobes where used. Too much advice on topics outside the theme like: money and the cost of staff that is irrelevant in such course.
