When I’ve just started, I really liked the concept of it and the creative view of it. The instructor is by far my favorite Udemy instructor (I’ve taken around 10 different courses so far) and has the best structure for this course, leading you to create something from a scratch to a project worth sharing with other people. He is clear, interesting, spontaneous and, above all, down to earth with so much useful advice for someone (like me) who is just beginning to get into filmmaking. He is not wasting time on contents that are of no use or are logical by themselves, everything is exceptionally structured and organized. The fact that I’ve finished the course in less than 5 days says something and it wasn’t because of the lack of material or not enough lessons, but because I found it super interesting. I hope I find more courses (maybe one about a technical part of filmming a documentary) and more material from the same instructor, as I think he does a really great job! Thank you, James! 🙂

Its like taking an actual course which I feel some of these are missing. Great course just finished and there is so much valuable information in this course, I suggest taking notes and going through it more than once. Thank you for all the info this was great.

I am a novice to documentary film making and this course was of utmost importance for me to start going. James Buffin did a bang up job with this course – he prepared it in a very systematic way, pondered on the importance of preparation and reserach phase and shared many valuable tips. I worked as assistant with some professional film-makers and intuitively thought sometimes that they are not correct in certain phases of filmmaking – if they took that course they would change many of their “bad habits” and be more efficient. I certainly will come back to this course and PDFs to keep reminding myself how each phase of filmmaking is structured and needs time and thought to mature. Thank you very much James,

The course was helpful in some ways. Most of the time it felt like it was meant for younger folks to do along with accompanying worksheets for school. I was hoping for more specifics regarding techniques. The overall organization of how to film a documentary was helpful, but it was a lot of common sense spelled out. I wish there would have been more examples shown of how it’s actually done in the business. Examples of the filming, but also have how a specific project might have used the workflow (an example shot list, schedule, etc) so that we could see the process in action.
