You are taking a photograph of one of the largest investments for a client. The photographs is the first thing other than price and location that people look at when making a purchase decision. This course is too basic and the cameras/lens used are not ones any experienced real estate photographer would recommend. Frankly, I would be embarrassed to put any of the photos on the MLS used in this course (the distortions and color in the photos are terrible hence the reason why you should not use auto on a bad camera). I guess on the plus side, I’ll add one star for staging/prepping a home for photography. There was nothing in this course about using flashes, diffusers and pro-gear. I suppose the name of this course should be “Do it yourself photography for home owners who don’t use professionals and don’t want to get the best price for their home” or maybe “Introductory Home Photography on a Budget”. Sorry for the bad review, I’m just being honest. This course is not for Real Estate Agents or Real Estate Photographers.

I like that he is taking time to explain why he is doing what he is doing and also showing the differences. This was a good course for the newby real estate agent who is not in a position to hire a professional. I am hopeful that what I’ve learned is enough for me to be able to take better photos now. I’m new to real estate photography. I truly enjoyed and appreciate the staging (preparation) guidance. The tool kit information and lighting information was brilliant. Had you not shared that, I would have learned about that from a series of unfortunate OJT experiences. 🙂

It’s a very good guide for a realtor to use. It got a little repetitive with things like camera settings and flash off. These could have been mentioned once then put on a single slide and reference back to each time. That single slide would have been a more useful reference.
A slide listing what to bring to a shoot would have also been useful. I heard a brief mention of using a high visability extension cord (I think) so people don’t trip over it. Things like this on a slide would be great. A little more detail on placement of the lights for the non-photographers would be much more useful than 2+ minutes on decluttering each room (if a realtor does not know to de clutter, it might be time to think about another profession).
Possibly using a sketch of the room and where the lights were placed, to bounce light back into the room, would have helped a realtor. But I do have to say, I’ve been looking at some listings after watching this class and a lot of realtors really need to watch this, because some of the photos are embarrassing on some listings I’ve seen. (I’m not a realtor)

Practical instruction for the non-experienced photographer. I like that the instructor used auto-mode for the entire course to keep things simple. The lighting and preparation was especially helpful to me.

It was a good course. I have a fair amount of experience in the field but still learnt some good tips here. It was a fairly short course and easy to follow. Not technical at all but useful. Practical examples. Great short course for realtors to improve their photographic skills.

I was expecting more information on taking photos, such as how many photos you should take and which areas should be included vs which areas you should not include in photos. I was not expecting the class to be shown using three different cameras on each area. If you are going to take good pictures, you need to use a good camera. The DSLR should have been the only camera used in this class. I felt that some of the rooms could have been set up better. Some other items could have been removed. Why would you choose to take the exterior photo at dusk? What about other rooms in a house, laundry room, basement rooms?

The equipment options were a thoughtful addition. The timer trick for unstable tripod surfaces was valuable. The area prep (no refrigerator magnets), tool box and exterior timing techniques made this course very worthwhile. Unfortunately, the content would freeze pretty often. That is why I gave it 4 stars.
