Song Science #2: The Complete Songwriting Chord Guide
What you’ll learn

Analyze advanced songs that use exotic chords

Build songs from scratch with advanced chord concepts
Songwriting is fun when you understand chords!
In this course we are going to go beyond the 6 chords and start understanding advanced songwriting technique.
When I say beyond the 6 chords, I don’t mean 6 more chords.  We are going to be studying tons and tons of chords in this course.
This goes way beyond the 1st course in this series.
We will go over multiple chord concepts with real examples showing how they are implemented.  We will be breaking down songs and I’ll be showing you how professional songwriters use advanced chord concepts.
You should take this course if you have an interest in how songs are created and if you’re interested in songwriting.
I hope to see you on the inside!
Who this course is for:
- Songwriters

I always used my guts to compose and improvise, now I can add my brains to the mix, very enlightening ! It opens whole new horizons…

This course has been kind of transformational for me, it’s been one of the most enjoyable online courses I’ve taken!
Rob is really a great instructor, very down to earth, and he’s figured out how to cover the material in just the right depth. I’ve watched this course several times through now, and Rob makes it easy to go in to the right section for whatever topic to review. Rob’s style is so laid back that I at first didn’t realize how in-depth the concepts were that he was covering. The first time through the course I kind of raced through without realizing how important the material was, but it’s really easy to review the lectures again.
The content of this course seems to have filled in exactly the holes in my musical knowledge.
For example I’ve seen the circle of 5ths but I never understood about the “circle windup” or the “Backcycling” concept – I didn’t even suspect these even existed!
And secondary dominants – I’ve seen this before but seriously a light bulb went on when I watched Rob explain things.
And the section on Modal Interchange – wow, I’ll be using this as a reference.
I really like how Rob gives real-world examples of the concepts. These help me remember the ideas as well, I just have to remember the song snippet to remember how to use the concept.
And, the “very hard” quiz at the end – yes it was hard but it was exactly the kind of analysis I need to be able to do on my own. After going through the quiz I feel like I am much better prepared to analyze songs in the wild on my own.
More material along these lines would be great … but I’ve signed up for Song Science #5, analyzing top-100 songs and I think this will be exactly more of this kind of analysis
All in all, this particular collection of material really resonated with me, and I’m really glad I’ve gone through the material. There are many parts of songs that I’ve always felt like asking “What’s going on here?” or “How did they make this sound?” After taking this class I’m on my way to answering these! Already when I hear songs on the radio I can start breaking them down to understand them much more so than before the course

Great explanations. A bit hard for me so I have to go over it. Loved the detail in explaining the chords of the hit songs and how I can apply it to songwriting. Thanks Rob. Wish I could message you..

This course was incredible. It has already elevated my song writing significantly, and there is so much material that I plan on returning back to. The teacher really knows their stuff, and they teach it in a very practical and easy to understand way.

Samuel Rosenzweig –
Excellent course! The instructor breaks down topics in a very easy to understand manner.
Nellize Gaia –
Too basic. he is teaching harmony, not piano for songwriters. This title give you the impression that he is going to show you some tricks of composition on the piano. So far, just wasting my time.
DAVID BRINDLEY –
Really clearre

Excellent course taught by a knowledgeable instructor.
