What you’ll learn

  • Build amazing single page applications with React JS and GraphQL
  • Master fundamental concepts behind structuring GraphQL servers
  • Realize the power of building flexible data schemas
  • Be the engineer who explains how GraphQL works to everyone else, because you know the fundamentals so well
  • Become fluent in the ecosystem supporting GraphQL, including the differences between Apollo and Relay

Note: This course assumes you are familiar with React!

If you’re tired of spinning your wheels trying to figure out what type of backend server to use, this is the course for you.

Authentication? You will learn it.  Apollo Data? Included.  Integration with React? Of course!

This course will get you up and running with GraphQL quickly, and teach you the core knowledge you need to deeply understand and build React applications quickly.

Both OSX and Windows supported.

We’ll start by mastering the fundamentals of GraphQL, including data types, schemas, and integration with Express and React. Source code is provided for each lecture, so you will always stay up-to-date with the course pacing.  Special attention has been paid to creating code that you’ll be able to make use of on your own fantastic projects.

If you are new to GraphQL, or if you’ve been working to learn it but sometimes feel like you still don’t quite ‘get it’, this is the GraphQL course for you! To learn GraphQL you have to understand it.

  • Learn how to use GraphQL’s schema to define relations between your data objects
  • Learn the process of combining a backend server with a front end React
  • Master the process of thinking about your applications data in terms of a graph structure
  • Grasp the difference between GraphQL, Apollo, and Relay, and when to use each
  • Develop apps that are unique, fun, and responsive.
  • Build servers that can be used with both React and React Native applications
  • Master handling authentication with GraphQL
  • Learn the core principles of navigation with React Router and GraphQL

I’ve built the course that I would have wanted to take when I was learning GraphQL. A course that explains the concepts and how they’re implemented in the best order for you to learn and deeply understand them.

The only reason it’s not a full 5 stars is because it’s getting a little dated: use of deprecated life-cycle components, older syntax, older libraries, etc. You will need to have a decent working knowledge of React to overcome some of the problems. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

I would like to give 5 stars because the teaching from the course is great, it allows you to understand how GraphQL and its environment works. Additionally, the author presents a lot of graphs to explain as precisely as possible what is great.

Unfortunately, cloned repositories from study projects do not function properly. The project cannot be started. So I looked for tips in the comments, but that wasn’t always helpful. For this reason, it is impossible to follow the author by coding simultaneously. The repository was updated 5 years ago. Just change it and I’ll change my grade.

Great, content-packed course for developers looking to expand their toolkit into the GraphQL world. Doesn’t backtrack all the way to programming basics, but launches right in with employable material in real-world example form.

The course is outdated, I recommend experienced students to update all npm packages and use this course along with latest official doc.

Pros: The information Stephen shares is spot on (even though it clicked only after my 4th time attempting this course). He goes into the right level of detail and the course is easy to get through.

Cons: This course is pretty outdated and doesn’t cover n+1 queries which is an important topic when discussing graphql. I also wish there was more server side topics rather than focusing on the frontend.

Hi, Thanks to Stephen that he did a great job on teaching this course. I like it. Advantages of this course:

    1) It is very descriptive. Thanks to Stephen whom explains every details and each step.

    2) It is also include NodeJs and how to write a good back-end

    3) It is very mobile friendly and you can watch the whole course on mobile, the teacher zooms on line of codes

The only part that is missed from this course is , there is no functional base component, no useQuery, useMutant and etc. and will be great if Stephen updates this course.

I am disappointed. Course material is very dated (about 5 years old). Code does not work out of the box and requires a lot of tweaking to bring it up to date. Also, the course end abruptly. It appears to miss some content that was advertised by the instructor. Examples are a bit too basic. On the bright side – it serves as a decent introduction to GraphQL concepts. Mr. Grider, as usually, does a good job explaining the concepts and showing programming patterns.

Stephen is Really amazing at explaining and clearing out each and everything. The only downfall is this course is a bit obsolete for now which can be updated!

Incredibly thorough and very clear with explanations. No major hassles of repo’s / packages not working. Thank you!

I have bought other courses from Stephen Grider and he is an amazing teacher. However I wouldn’t recommend this course to anyone because it is outdated and you need to do a lot of bug fixing to be able to follow along the course.

    *Will update this as appropriate*

Fair warning, this course is MASSIVELY out of date. It states it’s been updated this month (12/21) but anything of importance is from 5 years ago (aka no hooks, all classes, mentioning out of fashion libraries, etc). Given this fact I think 2 stars is appropriate, until it is made current. There is still valuable info to be gained if you understand that most of the methods used have been replace with hooks or newer concepts. I would have quit the course early if not for being of the opinion that it would be beneficial to see the “old way”, even if just as a reference.

I feel like the use case in the first “project” is mostly irrelevant for how most people will be using GraphQL for their first time (using GQL to query an existing REST api). This feels entirely unnecessary for me and is just adding an extra layer of abstraction. Now if you’re using an existing REST api alongside some other GQL server, this would make sense, but again not really a relevant example for a first use case IMO. This also kind of makes the flow of the course a bit wonky and leaves a lot of questions after the first project, which should be answered by then IMO.

Having said all of that, Steven is great at explaining things. There are definitely occasions where I wish there would be more “why” and less “what” but overall he does a good job.

If this were updated to modern standards it would be 4 stars, 5 stars if the course were just slightly reorganized a bit to better cater to people using GQL for the first time (IMO the first project should be a GQL server and using only HTTP on the fronted, then add a client (or multiple, since there are now many solutions)), etc.
