Understanding Jira for users, managers and admins
What you’ll learn
-
Understand Jira’s core features and how it works.
-
Use Jira more productively.
-
Benefit from Jira as a team leader or manager.
-
Set Jira up for your team or company as an administrator.
This Introduction to Jira course will get you up to speed on how to be more productive and effective in Jira. With six hours of content, we’ll focus on the three main types of users in Jira. The modules in this course are broken up for each of these types, so no matter which one you are you’ll be able to quickly access the things you need.
We’ll start by covering some core concepts and terms you’ll need to know about both agile and Jira before diving into the software itself.
After that, we’ll look at Jira from an end user’s perspective. What are the key things you’ll need to know as someone who’s just using Jira at your company? That’s what we’ll look at in the second module.
When you’re a team leader or manager using Jira, there’s some things you can do to help your team be more effective. So we’ll look at some of these things in the third module.
Finally, as a Jira administrator there’s a lot of ways you can help your company by setting them up for success in Jira. In the fourth module, we’ll look at Jira from an administrator’s perspective.
Now even though this course is organized for different types of users, I wanted to make it so no matter what type of user you are you’ll benefit from watching all of it if you wanted. For example, even if you’re only using Jira as an end user you can find it beneficial to understand how Jira workflows and processes work so you can “speak the language” when you’re asking your Jira administrator for something.
Who this course is for:
- This Jira course is meant for three main types of people: Jira users who want to be able to use it better. Team leaders and managers who want to take advantage of its features for their team and, finally, administrators who need to set Jira up for their teams and companies.
- This Jira course is NOT meant to be an end-all, one-stop-shop for everything you’ll need to know to customize every feature in JIRA. There’s just too many variables to include everything, so instead we’re focusing on the core concepts and features to get you up to speed quickly.

I had a wonderful experience by joining this course. It was very well structured, contained a lot of useful information and the presenter did a great job.

More “could be better” than “Average/Good”. Knowledgeable. But more pdf files. His feed sometimes makes it difficult to view what he is doing
Meenakshi Sundaram SANKAR PONNAR –
Good foundation course clearly explaining the applicable concepts and how to use the tool. Thanks.

Very thorough and detailed but way way way too long for an “Understanding…” course. I don’t really need to see what every single click does, nor do I need the tutor to spend time on uploading a header picture for his madeup team.
This course is more of a “let’s go through every single step in the manual” than a “let’s get people to understand how to work with Jira”. I would think it could have been cut down to one third of these 6.5 hours.

Great learning and the Q&A provides specific examples that I am sure I will come back for as I build more in Jira
Vicki Pflughaupt –
Q & A was great, but actual training could be greatly improved by more organization and less video of the speaker. The ‘action’ is happening on the Jira interface, so ‘wasting’ screen space on watching the speaker while speaking is distracting.
David Riggs –
Good course, gives plenty of knowledge on Jira, would of been nice to see more confluence too!
William Goswick –
It’s relevant, yes, and the speaker is a strong and well-worded presenter.

This course covers so much information that should really be separated into three separate courses aligned to each particular role and necessary functions. Even by following along with Jira there is too much information to actively retain for each particular function.
The presenter’s video is is unnecessary and distracts from the demonstration of the software.
Abidemi Bada –
Fantastic coaching and training. Easy to follow and understand. Engaging too.
Karamjot Matharu –
Course needs to updated Instructor had created few projects in advance to explain flow but would have been great if they started it from scratch
Alex Young –
Informational, but still really struggling to wrap my head around schemes, screens, issue type screen schemes, etc. I wish he had spent more time illuminating the ways things fit together. Maybe some analogies or metaphors like he did with the post its or specific examples. There is so much new terminology that it is hard to learn without being able to attach to something.
